CAT S48c Won’t Power On
The CAT S48c won't power on and is unresponsive when you press the power button.
Faulty/Dirty Charging Port
Ensure that you are charging the device with the correct type of charger (5 volt USB-C charger). Also verify that the charger works by testing with other devices. If the charger works and is the correct type and the device will not charge this might mean that the charging port is faulty or dirty.
- Try to wiggle the charger to see if there is a better angle to ensure a connection.
- Check for dirt/debris in the port and use a small tool to clean out the port. Now try plugging in the charger again.
- Check the charging port for any damage, if it is damaged you will probably need to replace it.
Dirty Power Button
A simple issue that could prevent the device from powering on is that something is blocking the power button from actually being pressed. When clicking the power button see if the button feels sticky or if it will not press all the way down.
- If the button feels sticky then the power button is probably dirty and you could try cleaning in the gaps around the power button using a folded paper towel with isopropyl alcohol.
- If the button feels like it wont press all the way down then there is probably debris that you will need to remove. You can try using a small tool in the gaps around the power button to clean any debris in there. If the issue is still present you might need to check for debris under the phone case. Follow these instructions [link here for future guide] to learn how to disassemble and look under the phone case .
Faulty Display
If the phone still will not power on, then it is possible that the phone is charged but the display is malfunctioning.
- Check to see if there is some small response in the display.
- If there are cracks or damage to the screen then you will most likely have to replace it.
- If there is no damage done to the screen there may be a software glitch causing display glitches. You can try to factory reset the phone, although it is unlikely to work if the device is unresponsive (will not power on). This method will delete all data, so try this if nothing else works. Follow this guide [insert link] to learn how to do a factory reset on this device.
Faulty Battery
If you are able to power on the phone, but are having issues with battery life/charging try the following steps to check your battery:
- Go to Settings > Battery >Battery Information. Look for "Battery Usage" or "Battery Health" If it says “Reduced” you can follow our replacement guide: [insert link]
- Another way to check your battery health is through your phone app, open your phone app and dial/call the following number:
*#*#4636#*#*then find the battery information life portion. You will be able to see the battery life, and if the battery life is almost over then you can follow our replacement guide [insert link]
However if you are unable to power on the device you will need to take apart the phone and physically check the battery.
- If the battery is damaged, looks abnormal such as a different color or puffiness or if the device is abnormally heating during charging then the battery is likely faulty. If any of these are apparent, make sure to stop using the device immediately and replace the battery.
- If the battery does not appear damaged you can force a reboot of the phone by taking out the battery then putting the battery back in, make sure to unscrew everything and unplug the wire band connecting to the motherboard, then, it should easily pop out. This may cause the device to turn on, perhaps if something software related was causing issues with the device powering on.
Faulty Motherboard
If all other underlying causes have been ruled out then it is most likely a motherboard failure
- Replace the motherboard following our replacement guide [insert link] and ensure that you back up any information that is necessary to keep.
