When you turn on the Bissell CleanView 3508, is the brush roll stuck and does not spin? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Debris is Clogging the Machine
As the brush roll spins it could accumulate hair or debris over time which could be a major cause in the brush not spinning. Here are some things to consider, seeing if your brush roll is clogged or not.
- Unplug and lay the vacuum down
- With a Philips screwdriver, unscrew each screw to gain access to the brush roll.
- Pull the belt off of the brush roll to remove the brush roll from the vacuum.
- With the brush roll in hand, check for any furs, debris, or hairs on the roll and remove them if spotted.
- Spin the roll with your hand to see if it is still stuck.
- If it spins, put the brush roll back in the vacuum by reverse tracking the steps provided above.
- If it did not spin, you may need to replace your brush roll.
Brush Roller or Belt is Faulty or Snapped
The brush roller is the main part that spins when vacuuming, although an issue found is that the brush roller itself can become stuck. The roller belt is what makes the brush roll spin. If the belt has snapped or is stuck, the brush will not spin. Here is how to check if your Brush roller or belt is faulty or damaged. For assistance, see {Insert guide link}
- Unplug and lay the vacuum down to access the 5 Philips head screws holding the brush access plate. Remove the brush.
- Stand the brush on a flat surface, then grab the top with one hand and spin or flick the brush with your other hand. The brush itself should spin freely
- There should also be access to the brush roller belt next to the housing of the brush roller.
- Remove the belt and check for any wear or tear on either side.
- Once checked, reattach the belt by looping it onto the motor shaft by stretching the belt until the brush is secured.
- Spin the brush until the belt is aligned correctly. Then reinstall the brush access plate and screws.
Vacuum Motor is Faulty
The motor is what runs the brush roll belt to make the brush spin, so if the vacuum’s motor is faulty or stalled, the brush roll will not spin. Here are ways to troubleshoot the motor to see if it needs to be replaced or if it is just stalled.
- Check if the vacuum setting matches the type of carpet or surface you will be working on.
- If it did match the carpet, then this issue does not apply to your vacuum, and you may have to get a technician to assess your motor if the problem persists.
- If it does not match (ex. The setting is set to soft carpet while you are working on a rough carpet) then the brush motor would stall.
- Set the correct surface setting and unplug the vacuum to reset the motor.
- Wait a few minutes then plug in your vacuum.
- If the problem persists, then you may need to replace your motor. {Insert guide link}
