Bear 1000 Ventilator Troubleshooting

Audible and visual alarm is activated indicating there is an issue with the ventilators performance. review the list of error codes below to identify your device issue.

If you see a dEF code in the Oxygen % display, you have entered your setting incorrectly. Repeat your set up procedure and ensure parameters are input correctly. For help with correct setting ranges & modes see this guide.

If you see an E33 code in the Oxygen % display, there is a problem with the internal cooling fan.

1. Check to see if the fan is being mechanically jammed by a foreign material. follow this guide for instructions on how to locate and inspect the fan.
2. If there is no visual jam in the cooling fan there could be a poor electrical connection between the fan and the EPC BCP. For steps on how to check electrical connections on the EPI PCB, follow this general guide.

If you see an E33 code in the Oxygen % display, there is a problem with the Blending Valve.

1. Check to see there is no foreign substance in the optical detector. Any foreign debris will cause the optic to not operate properly.
2. Run Operator Diagnostic test d03 to determine if the blender is mechanically jammed. Follow this guide for step by step instructions.
3. Check to see if the electrical connection between the blender and EPI PCB is secure by following this general guide.
4. If the error is repeatable, replace the blender with a functional unit.

If you see an E34 or E35 code in the Oxygen % display, there is a problem with the External Flow Sensing System.

1. check the flow sensor head to insure that both hot wires are intact and not coated with any foreign material
2. check the flow cable for any damage and secure connections
3. check the bulkhead fitting on the ventilator for any signs of damage
4. replace the flow head and flow cable individually
5. check the electrical connection on the External Flow PCB. for instruction on how to do this, follow this general guide.
6. If the error is repeatable, replace the External Flow PCB with a functional unit.

If you see an E36 code in the Oxygen % display, there is a problem with the Flow Control Valve (FCV).

1. Check the electrical connection between the FCV and the EPI PCB. for instruction on how to do this, follow this general guide.
2. After visually checking the connection, run Operator Diagnostic test d02 to determine if the FCV is mechanically jammed. Follow this guide for step by step instructions.
3. If the error is repeatable, replace the FCV with a functional unit.

Audible and visual alarm is activated indicating there is an issue with the proximal airway line.

The Proximal line bacteria filter could become disconnected from the ventilator or the Proximal line adaptor could disconnect from the patient wye . Ensure both sides of the Proximal line are connected.

Check for patient circuit leaks and ensure humidifier chamber is secure. Check diaphragm for leaks. If the error is repeatable, replace the Proximal Line and bacteria filter with a functional unit.

Audible and visual alarm is activated indicating there is an issue with the gas supply line.

the blender will only be supplying pure oxygen

1. Check the hose is connected to the air supply and the ventilator
2. Check to see if the compressor is plugged into power and turned on
3. Check to see if the air inlet gauge is set correctly and reading

If the filter is clogged, then a new one must be installed.

1. remove the air trap bowl (the long bottom piece)
2. NOTE: do not lose the seal at the top of the bowl!
3. the filter is held in place by the filter holder, so to remove the holder, unscrew it from the Trap body
4. slide the filter off and replace it
5. do the steps in reverse order to put back together.

the blender will only provide oxygen. Check to see if the compressor is set to put out more than 30 psi. If not, notify the appropriate technician.

The sensor will need to be replaced by a authorized technician.

LED’s on device will not light up and there are no audible alarms

The wall power source or extension cord you are using may not be functional. Try a different outlet or cord.

The ventilators power cord may also be disconnected from the machine. Make sure the power cord is both connected into the machine and outlet.

Fuses are housed on the rear of the ventilator and can be removed once the panel is removed that is covering them. The rear of the ventilator should also indicate the fuse ratings so they can be replaced.

The power supply will need to be replaced. This needs to be done by a trained technician.

keys give an audible tone when pressed but will not change the settings.

Press the LOCK keys button in the control panel to turn the buttons led off. the keys are now unlocked.
