Asus Chromebook C204MA Won’t Charge
When the USB-C is plugged into the Chromebook, there is no indication of charging.
Faulty Charging Cord
In standard packaging, the Asus Chromebook C204MA comes with a USB-C charging cord. To test if you have a faulty charging cord, it is best to test the USB-C charging cord on another device that works and takes the same cord. If the secondary device charges, you know that your issue does not reside within the charging cord. If the problem persists, it is best to replace the USB-C cord and purchase another. (Reaching out to ASUS support for a possible replacement cord depending on your warranty of the device.)
Faulty Charging Port
To diagnose if the charging port for your Chromebook is the problem, try using the cord that was given with your Chromebook on another device that uses the same charger. If the other device is getting a charge, you know that the problem is residing in the Chromebook. If the problem persists, it is more likely that the issue resides in charging cord. Another helpful tool to see if the charging port is by visual inspection, when you look at the charging port if the center prong inside the port looks bent, or you don't see it, the charging port may need to be replaced, use this guide to replace the charging port.
Faulty Battery
The Asus Chromebook C204MA is equipped with either the 42Wh or 50Wh 3-cell Li-ion battery. To diagnose if the battery is not working properly due to old age, you can use this guide to check the batteries health. If not that, then you can feel the battery on the bottom of the Chromebook to check if the battery has expanded due to swelling from a variety of issues. If either of these cases lead to be true, then the battery should be replaced following this guide.
Alternatively, if the battery is too hot for prolonged periods of time, the system is programmed to reduce charging capacity or stop charging the battery completely to protect the battery. Leave the Chromebook unplugged and cool to room temperature before plugging the charger again.
Faulty Wall Outlet
To diagnose a faulty wall outlet, it is best to try using the wall outlet for a different device or use. If the wall outlet works with another device, you now know that your wall outlet is not faulty and not the cause of the Chromebook not charging. If the wall outlet continues to not work, it is best to check using another wall outlet that you know works, to see if the problem continues.
