Is your Amazon Kindle 8th Generation connected to its charger but shows no sign of charging or powering up? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Faulty Charging Port
First, inspect the charging port for any visible damage. Dust and dirt can accumulate in the port and prevent a good connection. Use a flashlight to inspect the port. To clean it, use a can of compressed air by spraying short bursts directly into the port. If you do not have any compressed air, use a clean brush to gently sweep out any dirt. If the port looks physically damaged (bent pins, corrosion, loose parts) it may need to be replaced. This involves opening the Kindle and may require soldering.
Faulty Charging Cord
Check your charging cable for any visible damage, such as fraying, exposed wires, or bent connectors. If the cable looks damaged, it may not be able to charge the Kindle properly and should be replaced. If the cable does not appear damaged, test the Kindle with another compatible cord. Plug the cable into the Kindle and into a working outlet, ensuring the connection is secured. If the Kindle starts charging, then the original is defective and should be replaced.
Faulty Battery
If the charging port and cable are both functional but the Kindle still is not charging, the problem could be within the battery. To replace the battery, you’ll need to open the Kindle by removing the back cover using a plastic opening tool or a spudger to gently pry open the device. Once inside, the battery will be secured with screws and adhesive. You will need to carefully disconnect the battery from the motherboard using a small screwdriver. After removing the old battery, install the new one by reconnecting it to the motherboard and securing it in place.
