When you press the Power or Control button on the Altec Lansing Baby Boom XL speaker and it does not react, follow these steps to fix the issue.
Residue and Debris Around Power/Control Buttons
There can be an accumulation of debris and residue since the speaker is designed to be outdoors and waterproof.
- Disconnect device and power off
- Clean around the buttons with iFixit Precision Cleaning Kit or cotton swabs with alcohol
- Use compressed air to remove dust under and around buttons
Hard Power/Control Buttons
The rubber button cover could be degrading over time if the speaker has been dropped hard or buttons are excessively pressed, leading to stiffness in the button.
- Softly massage the button to decrease stiffness and loosen it up, helping the internal mechanism realign
- Add some warmth to the rubber with a hairdryer on low to make it more pliable
Glue Failure and Corrosion around Power/Control Buttons
- Remove glue from around the grill and use a flathead screwdriver to pry it off
- With a screwdriver, remove screws from the side that the grill was pried off
- Disconnect the buttons from the circuit board
- Replace the buttons and attatch to same circuit board
