If you use the trackpad on your Acer Chromebook Spin 714 CP714-2W-56B2 and it does not register your touch, lags, or is unresponsive, follow this guide for solutions.
Dirty Trackpad
The trackpad may have dirt on or underneath it. Rolling fingers on the trackpad - like drums - may help loosen dirt.
Tap your fingers on the trackpad repeatedly for 10 seconds to clear debris underneath.
Ribbon Cables Are Disconnected
Touchpad ribbons may not be grounded completely. Open your computer to access the mainboard and ensure the ribbons are connected properly. Refer to these instructions for a visual demonstration.
- Remove bottom cover and battery of the Chromebook 714C.
- Locate blue connector ribbons on the mainboard.
- Ensure they are connected properly, if not reconnect ribbons.
- Put all the parts back together.
Outdated Display Drivers
Outdated or corrupted drivers can be a common cause of touchpad malfunctions. A simple update could resolve the issue.
- Press the Windows button
- Look up “Device Manager”
- Open dropdown for “Display Adapters”
- Find your Display Driver, Right-Click, and select “Update Drivers”
