Will Not Turn On
The computer does not respond when turned on or opened.
Device Not Charged
If your laptop is not turning on, try plugging in the device's charger and wait about 2 hours. If after 2 hours the device does not turn on, see other solutions.
Faulty Charger Plug
If your Chromebook is not already plugged in, plug in the charger. Ensure the plug is firmly connected to both the computer and the outlet on the wall. Also, make sure the power adaptor is working.
Screen Brightness is Turned Down
If the charger seems to be working, your screen brightness might be low. Locate the brightness buttons on the Chromebook at the top of the keyboard. Then, press the increase brightness button several times.
Faulty Screen Display
If available, try connecting an external monitor to your Chromebook. If the screen displays on the new monitor, the issue is the Chromebook's screen. Consider replacing the screen.
Runs Slowly
The Chromebook works, but loads slowly or lags.
Bad Wifi Connection
When your Chromebook is on, check the Wifi Status. If you are not connected to a Wifi source, connect to one by searching the networks near you. If you're already connected to Wifi, check and reset your at-home router by unplugging the router, waiting 2 minutes, and then plugging it back in.
Too Many Tabs/Extensions
Your Chromebook may be running slowly because of the number of tabs and/or extensions open. Close all unused applications and extensions. To disable extensions, open the Chrome browser, click on Menu, select more tools, select Extensions, then disable or delete unused extensions.
Bad RAM
Your Chromebook might be running slowly because you do not have enough RAM, or your RAM is insufficient for the programs on your device. Consider installing, or upgrading, RAM into your Chromebook.
Keyboard Does Not Respond
Sections, or all, of the Chromebook's keyboard, are unresponsive when attempting to type.
Dirty Keyboard Switches
If sections of the keyboard are not responding, take out those specific letters from the keyboard. Underneath each letter is a switch. Clean that switch and the surrounding area. After cleaning all the problematic letters, put them back in their places and see if they work.
Bad Connections
If the whole keyboard does not respond, unscrew the back of the Chromebook. Open the back and ensure all connections to the keyboard are firmly in place and attached. Put the back of the Chromebook back on. If the keyboard is still not responding, consider replacing the keyboard.
Missing Keys
If there are certain keys missing, you will need to replace them.
Fails to Charge
The Chromebook does not respond or does not indicate the charging status when the charger is plugged in.
Cable Connection Issue
Make sure the charger is firmly connected to the Chromebook. To go further, unplug the charger and plug it in again, pressing firmly. Then, make sure the charger is completely plugged into the outlet. Again, unplug and replug the charger from the outlet. If the Chromebook still fails to charge, see other solutions.
Faulty Outlet
If your Chromebook is plugged into an outlet, unplug it. Then, try plugging the charger into a different outlet. If the Chromebook charges in a different outlet, the first outlet is faulty.
Faulty Power Adaptor
If the power adaptor is plugged in, examine the power adaptor for a light. If there is no visible light, the power adaptor is not working. Think about buying a replacement power adaptor.
Audio is Distorted
When the Chromebook’s volume is on, the audio sounds muffled, crackled, or incoherent.
Dirty Speakers
Locate the Chromebook's speakers (playing audio can help). Clean out any dust or other small materials that could be blocking the sound.
Low Storage
A lack of device memory can sometimes distort audio. Go to the device's settings and find your Chromebook's storage. If the storage is almost full, delete any unused applications, clear the device's trash can, and close out unnecessary applications.
Loose Headphone Connection
Play audio without headphones, and then with headphones. If the audio is only distorted with headphones, there is a bad connection between the Chromebook and the headphones. Make sure the cord is firmly connected to the Chromebook. If your headphones connect through BlueTooth, disconnect the headphones from your Chromebook and then reconnect. If the audio remains distorted, your headphones may be faulty.
