Fusion drives are great but should not even be considered unless both drives are on the same controller and powered by the same power supply.

What “caching SSD”? Fusion does not involve caching. Think of it as concatenated drives (the sum total storage is available) but with the software proactively migrating more frequently used material to the faster drive. If you could, and I never would, set up a fusion drive using the internal PCIe SSD and an external SATA600 SSD, then you should NOT be wasting the higher speed of the PCIe SSD.

And indeed if you had an external TB3 box that would accept an internal NVMe SSD and and a SATA SSD then this MIGHT be a sensible thing to do.

Although I would prefer to put the price of the external TB3 box toward the price of a 4TB SSD Mac

Or you could argue that Apple used a more expensive but more power efficient 5nm processor to remove the need for a larger battery and thereby lose the unpleasant stress point in the larger L shape battery. It just depends on what you want to see.

And while we are on the subject, why do iFixit still not sell spare parts for your own products. You’re so keen that everyone else should for theirs, but you don’t.

Pro is short for prostitute.

It just means that you get paid for doing it.

I expect a Pro device to be designed to minimise the chance of it needing repair.

Generally repairability is achieved at the expense of reliability.

Ifixit, great as they are, are biased on this topic as they make their money from device repairs. They have every motive to promote repairability over reliability.

I’ve never heard of anyone having a pair of ear buds repaired.

Being cordless, and because Apple will sell each of the 3 replaceable components separately, repair couldn’t be easier.

Follow the money. If iFixit can’t sell parts then they give low scores.
