MacBook fan was starting to sound like a mini jetplane taking off. The fan seemed to only have two speeds, 1000rpm and 6000rpm. Because of overheating problems, the computer would slow down and sometimes crash. I decided it was worth trying to replace the fan and clean out the heat sink.

Repair went smoothly, thanks to the detailed iFixit guide! Only issue was that I was unable to remove the old fan without breaking the black felt tape. Replaced it with some electrical tape, and so far, no problems.

Make sure you keep track of where each screw goes, because there are a lot of them. I laid them out in the order that I removed them. When it was time to reassemble my MacBook, I just worked backwards through the line of screws.
