My old 2006 20" iMac 2.0 Core Duo started shutting down randomly and would not turn on. It became impossible to use and I had to do something. I looked at a new iMac and the base model with tax would have cost me over 1,400.00. I did some research and my computer model seems to have been susceptible to power issues. The repair seemed like a logical choice since the probability of success was high.

I've used a previous iFixit guide to replace the hard drive 3 years ago and it went well. I took breaks every now and then, but once I finally got to the power module that needed to be replaced everything seemed to go back together easily.

My best advice is to print out the guide and lay it out completely, even if you need to bring in another table. When I remove any screws I lay them on top of the picture in the guide. This helps keep me organized, since some screws might be different size, or have a different thread. Also, prepare for what you are doing before you start a tear down and repair. I made sure I had every tool that was required (all can be purchased from iFixit), plus a new tube of Super Glue (in case a wire breaks). Lastly, buy an extra CR2032 clock battery and install it. In my case I had also bought a new hard drive and installed it since the hard drive is very easily replaced doing this repair. Hard drives will fail, back up your drive, and then replace it.
