Ford Focus mit Fixhub vor Schrottplatz gerettet 😱

Im Armaturenbrett (Ford Focus) eines Freundes leuchteten immer mehr Warnleuchten auf und gingen wieder aus. Das Auto sprang mal an, dann wieder nicht. Ein unzuverlässiger Lichterkettenalbtraum! In einem Youtube-Video habe ich gesehen, dass der Fehler relativ einfach zu lösen ist, wenn man das Kombiinstrument und die Platine darin ausbaut. Der Stecker der Kabelverbindung hat wohl häufiger kalte Lötstellen die zu Wackelkontakten und "falschen" Warnleuchten führen. Unter dem Mikroskop kann man sehen, dass bei einigen Lötstellen, um den Pin herum, "Kreise" zu sehen sind. Hier ist die Lötstelle gebrochen und das führt zu einem Wackelkontakt.

Eine reguläre Reparatur in einer Werkstatt hätte vermutlich ca. 1.500 € gekostet. Da das Auto schon ein paar Jahre alt ist und über 200.000 km auf dem Buckel hat, war die Alternative "Verschrotten" und sich nach einem anderen Fahrzeug umzuschauen. Jetzt (da wieder alles funktioniert) steht einer stressfreien weiteren Nutzung nichts mehr im Weg :-)

In the dashboard of a friend's Ford Focus, more and more warning lights kept turning on and off. The car would start sometimes, then not at all—a frustrating nightmare of flickering lights! I found a YouTube video showing that the issue could be resolved relatively easily by removing the instrument cluster and the circuit board inside. Apparently, the connector often develops cold solder joints, leading to intermittent contact issues and "false" warning lights.

Under a microscope, you can see that some solder joints have visible "rings" around the pins. This indicates that the solder joint is broken, causing an intermittent connection.

A standard repair at a workshop would likely have cost around €1,500. Since the car is already several years old and has over 200,000 km on the clock, the alternative was to scrap it and look for another vehicle. Now that everything is working again, nothing stands in the way of stress-free continued use. :-)

Mein Sohn ist NFZ-Mechatroniker und hat das Armaturenbrett ausgebaut. Das Kombiinstrument wird lediglich durch ein paar Schrauben und gut sichtbare Clips zusammengehalten. Ein Öffnen war nicht sehr schwer. Die Position der Anzeigenadeln sollte man vorher gut markieren um die korrekte Positionierung später wiederherstellen zu können.

Die Reparatur war recht geradlinig und einfach auszuführen.

- die 32 Lötstellen auf der Rückseite der Platine mit Flussmittel versehen

- Fixhub einschalten und auf 350°C einstellen

- 5 Sekunden warten bis die Temperatur erreicht ist - das ging ultraschnell!

- zuerst habe ich die Lötstellen einfach mit dem Lötkolben erhitzt und gewartet, dass das Lötzinn sich erhitzt, verflüssigt und die Bruchstellen sich schließen (ich würde sagen, das war "instant" beim Kontakt, weniger als 1 Sekunde)

- danach nochmal alles gut gefluxt und mit zusätzlich Lötzinn alle Lötstellen aufgefüllt und ausgebessert

Das Arbeiten mit dem Fixhub war einfach ein Träumchen :-)

Sehr schnell, keine Wartezeiten, gute Temperaturkontrolle (ich hab ja nix gemacht, das macht alles die Lötstation). Obwohl die Lötstellen so klein waren, dass man sie mit dem bloßen Auge zwar gesehen hat, aber nichts über den Zustand der Lötstelle erkennen konnte (das war erst unter Mikroskop zu erkennen), war der Fixhub super gut zu handeln. Ich hatte keine Schwierigkeiten jede einzelne Lötstelle gut und zielsicher zu erreichen und neu zu verlöten.

My son is a commercial vehicle mechatronics technician and removed the dashboard. The instrument cluster is only held together by a few screws and clearly visible clips, making it fairly easy to open. The position of the gauge needles should be carefully marked beforehand to ensure correct reassembly.

The repair was straightforward and easy to perform:

- Applied flux to all 32 solder joints on the back of the circuit board.

- Turned on the Fixhub soldering station and set it to 350°C.

- Waited 5 seconds for it to reach the temperature—super fast!

- First, I simply heated the solder joints with the soldering iron and waited for the solder to heat up, liquefy, and close the cracks (I’d say it was "instant" upon contact, less than a second).

- Then, I applied more flux and added additional solder to reinforce and improve all the joints.

Working with the Fixhub was an absolute charm!

Super fast, no waiting times, excellent temperature control (I didn't have to do anything—the soldering station handled everything). Even though the solder joints were so small that they were barely visible to the naked eye—and their condition was only apparent under a microscope—the Fixhub was incredibly easy to use. I had no trouble reaching each solder joint accurately and re-soldering them properly.

Ich muss jetzt noch loswerden, das ich ein absoluter Fachidiot bin... ich bin nicht vom Fach und habe keine jahrelange Erfahrung mit Lötarbeiten. Ich bin zwar kein blutiger Anfänger, aber immer noch ein Anfänger was das Löten an sich betrifft. Und dafür sehen die Lötstellen aber sowas von nice aus! Die Fixhub Lötstation begeistert mich sowas von, dass ich mich schon richtig auf das nächste Lötprojekt freue :-)

Mein Fazit: wenn der Leidensdruck sooooo groß ist (Kosten ca. 1.500 €), traut man sich manchmal auch an Reparaturen, die man sonst nicht selbst machen würde. Trau Dich! Du kannst das :-)

My conclusion:

When the pressure is this high (a repair cost of around €1,500), sometimes you take on repairs you wouldn’t normally dare to do yourself. Go for it! You can do it! 😊
