School was closed, but lessons were learned

My son’s iPhone performance was starting to degrade. Sometimes it would shut off with 30% battery left, and internet performance (YouTube) was noticeably worse than it had been in years past. So, he has been trying to save up for a while to buy a new phone. After hearing that Apple intentionally degraded performance in phones with old batteries to try to balance performance with battery life, he decided to ask me to help him get his battery replaced, to see if that would more closely align his iPhone reality to his iPhone expectations.

Great. Our county had a snow day, so schools were closed, but we found a way to keep learning.

My son is 11 years old, and using the instructional videos from iFixit, along with the supplied tools, he was able to swap his battery in practically no time. Or 45 minutes if you were just sitting around watching and offering advice.

More care could have been applied in unsticking the old battery from the phone. But, since we weren’t trying to save the old battery, we didn’t have any issues.
