I have had my Kindle for years. It's the second generation and it's given me hours of joy. So much so that the battery finally died. It wouldn't take a charge any more.

The repair went just as described on your webpage. The Kindle woke up -- there were all my books and I should get another 5 years out of the thing if I'm lucky.

I would start with the plastic opening tool on the right side of the seam. That worked the best for me. those little tools are great. I can think of a few times I could have used them.
