Dead original battery. Got the IPod from a niece who upgraded about four years ago. Loaded it with a couple hundred of my favorite tunes, not hers, and have enjoyed it since.

Went easily, once I got the cases separated. Battery installation was relatively easy, but I worked slowly and carefully so as not to break any cables. I suggest that you redesign the spudgers. The tips of both of mine broke off during the separation phase and I had to resort to a tiny flat-blade screwdriver. Someone on your repair blog suggested a credit card for the job. Why didn't I think of that?

'Tis better to repair than to toss. Think, read, learn, think again, do it. A little frustration, maybe, but much satisfaction on success. Pavoratti, CCR, and Rod Stewart sound better than ever. Thanks, iFixit.
