  • Remove the battery.

  • A typical car battery can weigh 50 pounds or more, so lift carefully and get help if needed. Do not drop the battery, as this can release dangerous chemicals.

  • If your battery cable clamps look dirty and/or corroded, clean them up with a wire brush and a mixture of water and baking soda before installing your new battery.

  • To prevent corrosion in the future, coat the new battery's terminals with a little dielectric grease or petroleum jelly.

  • Don't throw the old battery in the trash. Many auto parts stores and service stations will accept old batteries for free safe disposal.

Verwijder de accu.

Een typische accu kan makkelijk 20 kilo of meer wegen, dus til deze voorzichtig uit de auto en vraag hulp indien nodig. Laat de accu niet vallen, omdat hierdoor gevaarlijke chemicaliën kunnen vrijkomen.

Als de kabelklemmen er vuil en/of gecorrodeerd uitzien, maak ze dan schoon met een staalborstel en een mengsel van water en zuiveringszout voordat je je nieuwe accu installeert.

Smeer de polen van de nieuwe accu in met een beetje vaseline om corrosie in de toekomst te voorkomen.

Gooi de oude batterij niet in de vuilnisbak. Veel auto-onderdelenwinkels en benzinestations nemen oude batterijen aan om veilig te verwerken.
