The router is made with ambient air vents that operate on convection. As the router heats up from activity, warm air moves out of the router, to be replaced by cooler air. Dust, dirt, & grime limit the effectiveness of the cooling, causing the circuit board to heat up and break down & fail faster.

Simply use some compressed air to force accumulated dirt out through to the other sides.
