Non-metal Graphics

First of all, running macOS Big Sur or newer on non-metal will slow down performance drastically. To speed up you Mac, you can disabled several things that use up the graphics performance.
Head into System Preferences > Accessibility > Displays.
Choose "Reduce Transparency."
Sure, this will make the UI less pretty. If your Mac seems to be running fine with transparency enabled, you don't have to disable this. But, try running your Mac without transparency for a while and see if the performance improves. If your Mac does seem to spring back to life, it may not hurt to leave transparency off.
