Tinning the Tip
  • After cleaning off buildup with your brass or damp cellulose sponge, immediately feed some fresh rosin-core solder onto the entire working surface of the tip.

  • If the tip is clean and hot, solder should readily wet (melt and flow onto) the tip.

  • Coating the working area of a tip in a layer of solder is called "tinning."
