Peel up the mylar cover

Use a pair of tweezers or your fingers to peel back the mylar that covers the trackpad.
This mylar is adhered along the top of the trackpad (towards the rear of the laptop). Grip the mylar along this top edge to avoid stretching or breaking the mylar.
