Disconnect Power

You must unplug the battery and drain stored charge to make the unit safe to work on.
Do not unplug a wire or wires by pulling on the wire. The wire is built to electrical not mechanical standards. If a connector won't wiggle apart using your fingers, then use a tool to grip the connector by the shell.
The battery can be unplugged by fingers, it slides apart. I used two hands, but didn't have to grip the connector just used friction to pull it apart. The connector does not snap.
Press the power button to discharge the energy stored in those giant capacitors.
The noisy motor and the digital controller share the same battery. The capacitors store enough power to protect the controller from "browning out" when you accelerate. Which is enough to give you a shock, or to damage tools or electronics.
