You'll see a red wire glued to the batteries. This is (presumably) the overheating sensor. You'll need it later, so be careful not to damage it. Carefully scrape the glue/cement from the battery.

When the battery housing is disassembled and the batteries are free of the welding, they can be removed and recycled.
