Remove the silicone ring

Use your fingers or tweezers to pull the silicone ring off its groove in the earbud.
If you're reusing the silicone ring, don't stretch it too far or it won't fit snug in its groove.
Remove the silicone ring.
During reassembly, align the tab on the silicone ring with the notch on the earbud to ensure the ring fits snug.
