  • OpenCore does not patch any boot files inside of macOS. The only patching that OpenCore will do later on is called "Root Patching", which installs custom kexts in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. This basically makes your old hardware usable again. We'll understand this a bit more later on.

  • In order to make the Mac boot, OpenCore creates a custom built EFI. Remember, this EFI is not your Mac's firmware. OpenCore does not patch the firmware on your Mac's logic board.
