Fully open the thermostat/valve

Undo the screw on the fastening clamp. In this case an older thermostat is shown. Newer models probably have a twist and screw cap and you may not need tools at all.

Put some multipurpose oil onto the little transmission pin.

By tapping the pin CAREFULLY with a hammer, you can make it move again.

Add some additional lubrication to the pin before screwing the thermostat back on.
