Diagnose by Seeing What Works

  • Play around with the remote to see if any buttons are working correctly. Turn the TV on manually, and methodically press each one of the buttons on the remote while observing the results. Make note of which buttons are working.

  • If at least some of the buttons on the remote are working, then the batteries are fine, the remote is sending some commands to the TV, and the TV is responding to them. Two possibilities remain: either some of the buttons on the remote are bad, or the TV is not responding correctly when commanded.

  • If you have a second remote control from the same manufacturer, see if it works with your TV. If it work correctly with a second remote, then the problem lies with the original remote.

  • If a second remote also fails, chances are that the problem is inside the TV. That repair is possible but outside the scope of this repair guide.

  • If you have a second TV with the same brand, try pointing your remote at the second TV. If it works with this second TV, then the fault is with your first TV.

  • In my case, I discovered that my remote's Power button was ineffective, but that pushing the "TV" button on the remote turned the TV on. This told me that the TV was capable of turning itself on when commanded, so the problem lay with the Power button on the remote.

Diagnostiseer door te kijken wat werkt

Controleer met de afstandsbediening om te zien of er knoppen goed werken. Zet de tv handmatig aan en druk methodisch op elke knop op de afstandsbediening terwijl je de resultaten bekijkt. Noteer welke knoppen werken.

Als ten minste enkele knoppen op de afstandsbediening werken, dan zijn de batterijen in orde en stuurt de afstandsbediening enkele opdrachten naar de tv en reageert de tv hierop. Er blijven twee mogelijkheden over: of enkele knoppen op de afstandsbediening zijn defect, of de tv reageert niet correct op opdrachten.

Als je een tweede afstandsbediening van dezelfde fabrikant hebt, kijk dan of deze werkt met de tv. Als het goed werkt met een tweede afstandsbediening, dan ligt het probleem bij de originele afstandsbediening.

Als een tweede afstandsbediening ook niet werkt, is de kans groot dat het probleem in de tv zit. Die reparatie is mogelijk, maar valt buiten het bereik van deze reparatiehandleiding.

Als je een tweede tv hebt van hetzelfde merk, probeer dan je afstandsbediening op de tweede tv te richten. Als het met deze tweede tv wel werkt, dan ligt de fout bij je eerste tv.

In mijn geval ontdekte ik dat de Power-knop van mijn afstandsbediening niet werkte, maar dat het indrukken van de "TV"-knop op de afstandsbediening de tv aanzette. Dit vertelde me dat de tv zichzelf kon aanzetten als ik dat opdroeg, dus het probleem lag bij de Power-knop op de afstandsbediening.
