Use flat cutters or an iFixit Opening Tool to cut the excess plastic off the plastic pins holding the keyboard backing plate.
Make sure just to remove the excess plastic because to reinstall the backing plate the pins must be melted back around the backing plate.
When reassembling move back to the last step now (Step 21).
