Hold the Menu and Center button

Hold the menu and center button until you see the Apple logo. If you see the Apple logo, immediately release the menu and the center button.
Do not use too much power holding the iPod classic. If you hold the iPod classic menu and the center button too much, the menu and center button dosen't work.
