  • Back to that 3D Touch-less display—we expected to find a slight but measurable difference in thinness, but it sure doesn't look that way from here. The iPhone 8 display (left) looks pretty much identical to the SE's (right). Are they secretly the same?

  • Not so fast! On 3D Touch screens, we'd normally find a chip on the back that drives the parallel plate capacitors (as seen in our 6S teardown). The iPhone SE display (on the right in this photo) doesn’t have that chip, just a blank window where the chip would be.

  • And the layer of capacitors? We start peeling off display parts in an attempt to confirm...

  • Confirmed. No 3D Touch.

  • On the bright side, the two displays are functionally interchangeable, which is kind of amazing considering the difference in hardware—the 8 display works on the SE, and vice versa.

  • Before you get any ideas about adding 3D Touch to your new iPhone SE though, we tried it, and it doesn't work.

Tornando allo schermo privo di Touch 3D, ci aspettavamo di trovare una lieve ma apprezzabile differenza nello spessore, ma da qui non si direbbe proprio. Il display dell'iPhone 8 (a sinistra) sembra davvero identico a quello dell'SE. Che siano segretamente identici?

Non corriamo troppo! Negli schermi Touch 3D, normalmente troviamo un chip sul retro che fa da driver per i condensatori a facce parallele (come già visto nel nostro smontaggio del 6S). Il display dell'iPhone SE (a destra in questa foto) non ha questo chip, ma solo una finestra vuota dove il chip avrebbe dovuto trovarsi.

E lo strato di condensatori? Cominciamo a staccare una alla volta parti del display nel tentativo di avere una conferma…

Confermato. Non c'è Touch 3D.

La nota positiva è che i due schermi sono funzionalmente intercambiabili, qualcosa che ci sorprende considerate le differenze nell'hardware: il display dell'8 "va" sull'SE e viceversa.

Prima però che ti sorga la speranza di poter aggiungere il Touch 3D al tuo nuovo iPhone SE: noi ci abbiamo provato e non funziona.
