  • Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip may unfold in a new direction, but its updates aren’t the panacea for foldable phones.

  • The “sweeper technology” brushes performed hilariously poorly in our dust test. Though the test wasn't exactly demonstrative of real-world use, the amount of dust trapped in the brushes (very little) wasn't exactly confidence-inspiring.

  • The “ultra-thin glass” is actual glass—under a layer of plastic—but it doesn’t feel like glass, or provide a more scratch-resistant surface than the Fold had.

  • Unless you’re an Instagram influencer living in a pristine apartment who needs the newest hotness, this phone is probably not for you. It’s more of a novelty luxury item. And maybe that's okay? All new technology has to start somewhere—let’s hope this one either matures quickly or perishes swiftly.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip kan zich dan wel op nieuwe manieren ontvouwen, maar de updates vormen zeker niet het tovermiddel voor opvouwbare telefoons.

De kwastjes met "sweepertechnologie" werkten hilarisch slecht in onze stoftest. Hoewel de test niet echt representatief was voor normaal gebruik, werkte de hoeveelheid stof die in de kwastjes te vinden was (erg weinig) weinig inspirerend op het vertrouwen in de telefoon.

Het "ultra-dunne glas" is daadwerkelijk van glas—onder een plastic laag—maar het voelt niet als glas en het lijkt niet meer bescherming tegen krassen te bieden dan de Fold.

Tenzij je een Instagram-influencer bent die in een kast van een huis woont en de nieuwste gadgets moet hebben, is deze telefoon waarschijnlijk niet voor jou. Het is meer een luxe-item. Wellicht is dat ook prima? Alle nieuwe technologie moet ergens geïntroduceerd worden—laten we hopen dat deze óf snel volwassen wordt óf snel verdwijnt.
