  • Out comes this ticker’s brain, the all-new—or maybe not?—S5 system-in-package.

  • Although it benefits from a new compass and double the onboard storage—32 GB, up from 16—most of the integrated circuits remain entombed under a solid layer of resin, out of our reach. Of the few chips above the surface, here's what we can make out:

  • Skyworks 229-15 465371 1918 MX, most likely front-end module

  • 16 CJ

  • YY NCJ 7NE (likely the acceleration + gyro sensor)

  • API 924 920

  • Looking at the attached display flex cables and laying them over those of the Series 4 for comparison, we can see that the plug in the middle gained 4 pins and the one on the bottom gained 2. Without knowing their function, this closes the door on interchangeability.

Heraus kommt das Gehirn dieser Uhr, das brandneue (oder vielleicht auch nicht?) S5-System im Paket.

Obwohl es von einem neuen Kompass profitiert und den Speicherplatz an Bord verdoppelt (32 GB, von 16 GB), bleiben die meisten integrierten Schaltungen unter einer festen Harzschicht begraben, außerhalb unserer Reichweite. Die wenigen Chips, die wir erkennen können, sind folgende:

Betrachtet man die angebrachten Display-Flexkabel und legt sie zum Vergleich über die der Serie 4, erkennt man, dass der Stecker in der Mitte 4 Pins und der Stecker unten 2 Pins mehr erhalten hat. Was ohne Kenntnis ihrer Funktion die Tür zur Austauschbarkeit schließt.
