  • The huge success of the TR-63 helped Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (aka "Totsuko") decide to change its company name to Sony Corporation in 1958. For the few years prior, "Sony" had simply been a brand name attached to the company's fledgling line of transistor radios. (Check out the retro Sony logo - I like it!)

  • At the time, the company's co-founders felt the Japanese name was too hard to pronounce and remember by foreigners. They decided the name change would help them expand and become well known worldwide. And as they say, the rest is history.

Het enorme succes van de TR-63 hielp Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (ook bekend als 'Totsuko') in 1958 om zijn bedrijfsnaam te veranderen in Sony Corporation. De paar jaar daarvoor was 'Sony' gewoon een merknaam die was verbonden met de prille reeks transistorradio's van het bedrijf. (Bekijk het retro Sony-logo - ik vind het leuk!)

Destijds vonden de medeoprichters van het bedrijf dat de Japanse naam te moeilijk uit te spreken en te onthouden was door buitenlanders. Ze besloten dat de naamsverandering hen zou helpen om uit te breiden en wereldwijd bekend te worden. En zoals ze zeggen, de rest is geschiedenis.
