  • In the name of science, we opt to dismantle our display to learn from whence it came. Its defenses are strong, but no match for heat, patience, and a can-do attitude.

  • At first, the frame's black border tricks us into thinking the display curves down to the frame. Future pryers, beware!

  • Drumroll please.... it's a Samsung! Rumors were all over the place, but it looks like Google is going with Samsung's trusty AMOLED panels this year.

  • Samsung's panels should be a little more reliable than last year's, but unfortunately this one comes with a Samsung-esque repair process as well.

  • Replacing a Pixel 3 screen will be tricky, and will most likely require replacing the whole frame of the phone.

  • Last, but not least, a display chip sitting alone on the display cable:

  • Samsung S6SY761X touch controller (as seen on the S9+)

  • GigaDevice GD25LQ80 8 Mb serial flash memory

Im Namen der Wissenschaft haben wir entschieden, unser Display ganz auseinanderzunehmen, um seinen Geheimnissen auf den Grund zu gehen. Es leistet starken Widerstand, aber der Hitze, unserer Geduld und unserer positiven Einstellung ist es nicht gewachsen.

Zuerst werden wir vom schwarzen Rand des Rahmens in die Irre geführt, da es so aussieht, als ob das Display nach unten in den Rahmen gebogen ist. Zukünftige Bastler, habt Acht!

Bitte einen Trommelwirbel ... es ist ein Samsung! Es hat überall Gerüchte gegeben, aber es sieht so aus, als ob Google dieses Jahr die zuverlässigen AMOLED Bildschirme von Samsung benutzt.

Die Samsung Bildschirme sollten etwas zuverlässiger sein als die vom letzten Jahr, aber leider bringen sie auch eine Samsung Reparatur Prozedur mit sich.

Der Austausch eines Pixel 3 Bildschirms wird eine knifflige Angelegenheit sein und wird wahrscheinlich den Austausch des gesamten Rahmens erfordern.

Und zu guter Letzt befindet sich noch ein einsamer Chip auf dem Displaykabel:
