Solution 4 - Initialize Disk

  • As we know, if you connect a new Toshiba external hard drive to your PC, your Windows may not recognize it because it has not been initialized. Open Disk Management. (Press Windows + R on your keyboard to launch the Run dialog box. Type "diskmgmt.msc" into the box and press OK.)

  • Right click on the name portion of the disk entry, where it says Disk [#]. Select Initialise Disk from the right-click context menu. And then, you will be given detailed operating prompts. Just do as told.

  • Note: during the initialization process, you'll be prompted to choose whether you want to use a Master Boot Record (MBR) or a GUID Partition Table (GPT) for the partition style of your Toshiba external hard drive. Here, in my opinion, if the capacity of your Toshiba HDD is over 2TB, you had better choose GPT, for MBR can support up to 2TB disk.

Oplossing 4 - Schijf initialiseren

Zoals we weten, herkent Windows een nieuwe externe harde schijf van Toshiba mogelijk niet als je deze op je pc aansluit, omdat deze nog niet geïnitialiseerd is. Open Schijfbeheer. (Druk op Windows + R op je toetsenbord om het dialoogvenster Uitvoeren te openen. Typ "diskmgmt.msc" in het vak en druk op OK.)

Klik met de rechtermuisknop op het naamgedeelte van de schijfvermelding, waar Schijf [#] staat. Selecteer Schijf initialiseren in het contextmenu. Vervolgens krijg je gedetailleerde instructies. Volg gewoon wat er wordt verteld.

Let op: tijdens het initialisatieproces wordt gevraagd te kiezen of je een Master Boot Record (MBR) of een GUID Partition Table (GPT) wilt gebruiken voor de partitiestijl van de Toshiba externe harde schijf. Als de capaciteit van de Toshiba HDD meer dan 2 TB bedraagt, kun je beter voor GPT kiezen, aangezien MBR schijven tot 2 TB ondersteunt.
