Solution 4 - Initialize Disk

  • As we know, if you connect a new Toshiba external hard drive to your PC, your Windows may not recognize it because it has not been initialized. Open Disk Management. (Press Windows + R on your keyboard to launch the Run dialog box. Type "diskmgmt.msc" into the box and press OK.)

  • Right click on the name portion of the disk entry, where it says Disk [#]. Select Initialise Disk from the right-click context menu. And then, you will be given detailed operating prompts. Just do as told.

  • Note: during the initialization process, you'll be prompted to choose whether you want to use a Master Boot Record (MBR) or a GUID Partition Table (GPT) for the partition style of your Toshiba external hard drive. Here, in my opinion, if the capacity of your Toshiba HDD is over 2TB, you had better choose GPT, for MBR can support up to 2TB disk.

Solution 4 - Initialiser le disque

Comme nous le savons, si vous connectez un nouveau disque dur externe Toshiba à votre PC, Windows peut ne pas le reconnaitre parce qu'il n'a pas été initialisé. Ouvrez le Gestionnaire de disques. (Appuyez sur les touches Windows +R pour ouvrir la boite de dialogue Exécuter. Tapez "diskmgmt.msc" dans le champ et cliquez sur OK.)

Faites un clic droit sur la zone Nom du disque, où il est inscrit Disque [#]. Sélectionnez Initialiser le disque depuis le menu contextuel (clic droit). Vous aurez ensuite des demandes détaillées. Suivez les instructions.

Note : pendant le processus d'initialisation, il vous sera demandé si vous voulez utiliser un Master Boot Record (MBR) ou une GUID Partition Table (GPT) pour votre disque dur externe Toshiba. Ici, d'après moi, si la capacité de votre disque Toshiba excède 2 To, il vaut mieux choisir GPT, vu que MBR supporte les disques jusqu'à 2 To.
