    • Start by gently peeling the adhesive off of each side of the iMac by using the iMac Opening Wheel.

    • Next, carefully remove the three cables.

    • (From left to right) The first cable can be removed with a prying tool or with a fingernail. With the second, the tab on the ZIF Connector must be flipped up so that the cable can be removed. The third requires the tab on the left of the connector to be flipped up to allow it to be removed.

The 3 connectors in this photo are not the ones that need to be disconnected. Only the one on the right in the photo (already disconnected) need to. The text portion accurately describes the cables that need to be disconnected, however.

Will this cause an issue with true tone and the front camera similar to iPhone screen replacements?

Kane Snyder - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

True Tone will be removed however the camera will still work. The screen will work just fine

Where is a good place to buy replacement screens? I have and Apple 24" iMac with M1 Chip (Mid 2021, Silver) and afraid I’m going to buy the wrong screen or a fake one. Thanks for time

Apple has eliminated the ability for these parts to be available from anyone but Apple and they charge so much that you might as well buy a new iMac. So much for their supposed commitment to repairability. There whole repairability program is nothing but a forward facing PR campaign while their actual processes are meant to encourage their continued windfall from Applecare or the sale of new machines. They are happy to have you trade in your existing product that they then fix and resell, just not willing to do that at a reasonable cost for their actual customers.

And That's The Way It Is -

Since you partner with Apple why no listing of availability of the actual part? And if it's not available what is the point of this being titled "Screen Replacement"?

You can buy second hand screen through online retailers. And if you get a screen replacement from Apple Care, this guide provide an alternative understanding to the Apple's repair guide 👍🏽

Just swap the ALS from your original display to the new display, and True Tone, etc. will work just fine. Auto brightness will work without swapping the ALS, but True Tone will not. The ALS is a small sensor held down by 2 T3 screws on the top left (when looking from the front).

There is a thin ribbon cable that plugs into a daughter board along with the camera. Just unplug from the daughter board, pull up the ribbon (a bit of adhesive), and transfer it along with the sensor to the new one.

Step 3 (as of 09Apr2025 when writing) actually shows this daughter board and the ribbon. That photo for step 3 is actually misleading, bc it shows the daughter board, but only 1 of them needs to be removed to actually remove the display from the iMac. The other two referenced cables are NOT in that photo.

Source: written from an M1 iMac I just did this to 5 minutes ago.
