-[* black] Elster REX2 Smart Meter Repairability Score: 6 out of 10 (10 is easiest to repair)
- [* green] The two halves of the case are held together with four plastic clips.
- [* green] There is only one single Phillips screw in the entire meter.
- [* yellow] Removing the power supply, albeit not difficult, requires bending safety clips.
- [* yellow] LCD replacement does not require disconnecting ribbon cables.
- [* red] You must break a security seal to service the meter, and we don't think utility companies would appreciate you attempting to repair/alter their meters.
+[* black] Normally we'd assign a Repairability Score on the last step, but we don't feel it's appropriate for this device. After all, there's a tamper-evident security seal for a reason.
+[* black] Even so, we're glad to know that the smart meter doesn't have easily-breakable internal components, and can be serviced without difficulty by an authorized service technician.
+[* black] A big thanks to Elster for providing us one of these meters! We certainly didn't want to take ours off the grid in order to mess around with it.
