[* black] Dig down to pipe fitting
[* black] Dig down and around the busted sprinkler extension to gain access to the pipe fitting
[* icon_note] The pipe fitting is usually about one foot under ground
[* black] The hole should be at least 6 inches in diameter, or wide enough to turn pliers/ crescent wrench 360 degrees around the sprinkler extension
+ [* icon_note] Make sure to keep the excess dirt in one location because it will be reused later to refill the hole
+ [* icon_caution] Do not be too forceful with the shovel when digging to the pipe fitting. If you slam the shovel into the dirt too hard and hit the piping, you may damage the pipeline.
+ [* icon_caution] Watch out for ants or other hazardous insects when digging. Raid or some other form of insect repellent may be needed.
+ [* black] Once the pipe fitting is located, use a gardening shovel to scoop out any additional dirt around the fitting so that it is clearly visible
