+[* icon_caution] You are saving the environment from the Lead (Pb) glass from the rear of the CRT and Barium (Ba) glass from the front screen. There is very little danger of the CRT imploding or cracking if you use common sense, they are built for shipping and rough handling. Most of cadmium in the screen phosphors is unlikely to be liberated if the tube breaks, and is not much of an environmental hazard.
