[* black] Lens disassembly and reassembly is much harder and I haven't yet fully mastered it. However, you can test the operation of the lens mechanism as follows. (Do this after reassembly if you strip it down.)
[* black] Gently lift the ribbon cable connections off the 2 tags on the back of the motor.
-[* black] Apply power to the motor from a 3v battery pack by connecting it to the 2 tags on the motor. Reverse the polarity of the battery to reverse the direction of the motor, according to whether you want to extend or retract the lens.
