Zip loc bags are great for keeping these screws all in one place. At the very least do this over a hard surface of some kind, never above a carpeted surface. We also recommend that you have a static free cloth (made of natural fiber like cotton, not polyester) to set the circuit boards on. This protects the circuitry from getting scratched or short circuited; these things could damage your device further.
