+[* black] This would be a good time to clean the armature with all of the bracketry and carbon brushes removed.
+[* black] Using a carbon residue or carburetor cleaner, spray a small amount on the armature and wipe with a low-lint paper towel or shop towel. A toothbrush is also a helpful tool to help agitate the carbon deposits
+[* black] DO NOT USE A WIRE BRUSH they are too rough for this application and could damage the many wires/connections epoxied into place
+[* black] Then rotate the armature and repeat the process until a shiny copper surface is visible.
