[title] How to measure capacitance (small capacitors)
[* icon_note] This step shows how to measure small ceramic or film capacitors. These capacitors are normally flat, with a body that's smaller than 5 mm.
[* black] ***Power down the circuit you're measuring***, if you're measuring the capacitor while it's still connected to the circuit.
[* black] Plug the ***black lead*** into the ***COM port***. Plug the ***red lead ***into the ***right port***.
-[* red] Set the multimeter to the resistance/capacitance mode and press the [link|https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/1E4dSUMjEEFT4NJ2.full|blue select button|new_window=true] to toggle on the capacitance mode.
+[* red] Turn the function dial to the resistance/capacitance mode and press the [link|https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/1E4dSUMjEEFT4NJ2.full|blue select button|new_window=true] to toggle on the capacitance mode.
[* black] Touch the probes to each end of the capacitor to make a measurement.
[* icon_note] If you're measuring a capacitor on a circuit board and you're not getting a proper reading, the capacitor may be in parallel with other circuit components. You'll need to desolder or disconnect one end before measuring the capacitor.
