[title] Measuring high current (amp scale)
+[* icon_note] The next two steps show how to measure high (600mA-10A) current.
[* icon_note] ***The iFixit multimeter's high current port has a 10A limit and the fuse is soldered to the multimeter's motherboard. If you suspect the current measurement is higher than 10A, don't use the multimeter to make the measurement.*** Instead, use a higher rated current meter or a clamp meter.
[* icon_caution] ***Measuring amp-level current can be dangerous even at low voltage (12V) levels! *** Follow these precautions:
[* icon_note] Be very aware of what the probes are touching and make sure they don't accidentally touch anything conductive.
[* icon_note] Be careful not to touch any live circuitry. If there's a significant chance of exposure, cover the live circuit with insulating material and wear insulating protective equipment such as insulating gloves.
[* black] Plug the ***black lead*** into the ***COM port***. Plug the ***red lead*** into the ***left port***.
[* red] Set the multimeter to the amp ***A mode***. If you're measuring AC, press the [link|https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/1E4dSUMjEEFT4NJ2.full|blue select button|new_window=true] to switch to AC mode.
