[* icon_note] If you aren't sure how to use a multimeter, take a look at [guide|25632|this guide|new_window=true].
[* black] Set your multimeter to the ohms (Ω) setting. If your meter has more than one scale for ohms (Ω), set it to (Rx1000).
-[* black] Touch the probes together to make sure you get a reading that's very close to zero. This makes sure your meter is working properly to measure resistance.
-[* black] Touch the probes to the contacts on the thermistor. The reading ***at room temperature*** should be about 12.5‑14.5 kΩ. The photo shows a reading for a good thermistor.
-[* black] If your thermistor reads outside the range above, or reads no continuity (OL) or 0.00 Ω, move to the next step to replace it. If not, you don't need to replace the thermistor.
