Introduction
This is a repair that tells how to replace the memory (RAM) on a Mac Powerbook 520! It gives step by step instructions on how to carefully replace an old RAM with a new RAM. Follow the instructions carefully.
Before replacing RAM make sure to remove the Battery, Keyboard, Center Base Cover, and Daughterboard EMI shield ahead of RAM replacement.
Some information needed prior to replacing RAM card involves the PCMCIA:
The Personal Computer Memory Card International Association expansion module is an option for the Powerbook 500 Series. The three types of PCMCIA cards are Type I which is 3 mm, Type II which is 5mm, and Type III which is 10mm.
Type I and Type II cards will fit in either the expansion module's upper or lower slots. Type III cards will fit in the expansion module's lower slot.
For the PCMCIA expansion module, do NOT insert of remove PCMCIA expansion module while the computer is either on or is in Sleep mode. This can cause the computer to shut down and lose the RAM Contents.
Eject the PCMCIA module by using the lever located at the front of module; eject using the PCMCIA Eject control panel or Quick Eject module that is in the Control Strip of the computer.
Keep protective cap from module and place it on module when not in use.
Do NOT open module.
Do NOT insert anything other than PCMCIA card in card slots.
Ensure nothing is blocking the card's slot, and to reinsert card, pull it one more inch out then push back in.
Ensure that only cards used are ones compatible with the PCMCIA expansion module. To check ,refer to compatibility info. that came with card.
