Title
Yoto Mini SD Card Replacement
Introduction
In light of the Yoto Mini recall and a recent SD FAIL message, I decided to open ours up and replace the card myself. ''(I doubt Yoto will have replacement units anytime soon)''
It’s a fairly simple process, but unfortunately you do need to break 4 tabs on the screen to access the SD card. This is likely why the unit is not user-repairable, and does not fall under Yoto’s “Right to Repair” documentation. They only provide [link|https://support.yotoplay.com/en-US/yoto-player-(2nd-gen)-sd-card-replacement-395249|instructions for the full sized Yoto Gen 2 here|new_window=true]. Thankfully the screen goes back in place without the little tabs – I’m not worried about it falling apart once reassembled.
My player had a 16GB Sandisk card. I used a [link|https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1Y8CS3R|64GB Lexar card from Amazon|new_window=true]. You’ll also need a small Philips screwdriver (P00) and some sort of small flathead to pry (I used 2.5mm). Both come in the lovely [link|https://www.amazon.com/iFixit-IF145-299-4-Driver-Bit-64pc/dp/B0189YWOIO?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.EJBczBkYqYupyFzIfl50edodUeWreYy9OshuoyNx7lM0Z4_JIbkkEm9RoaQGksCeo1aWtFUbserswdRBoi7l5W-jUj2DqTC8yLfTjZyBMrbeHVLVZJZ8mwS0UXsiP2jTNiH45XNU5pIeVOdLnvbuvxorvJ7nVj1VXaB4Agsgzj1RtIiIgt89dtspyMQfxundPbmG6EieycqKEEWzxvwuCcHn1XaRVh9ReIfw0HhNZI7skYVmNVntDCbo3aAn--o75470vBMiuMQ5IzM1QbiTGEomMo-bANpHBtUPWCcdHwk.k3egz9LwRimsKK9x1PvHiNypqDWQtM0Au6fQwOItyH4&dib_tag=se&keywords=ifixit+kit&qid=1713026307&sr=8-5|iFixit Mako driver kit|new_window=true].
