Use this guide to replace the heat sink in a HP Pavilion 15-cc561st (product number 1KU29UA).
The heat sink is an important component that keeps the processor cool. It transfers heat from the processor through heat pipes to a fin-stack which transfers heat to the ambient air. Thermal paste helps maximize heat transfer between the processor and heat sink, so it is important to reapply thermal paste before reinstalling the heat sink.
Shut down the laptop, disconnect all external devices, and unplug the AC adapter before beginning. Take the [[What to do with a swollen battery|appropriate precautions|new_window=true]] if your battery is swollen.
You will need replacement thermal paste in order to complete this repair.
The photos in steps 11–12 are missing the WLAN module and memory module. These are ''not'' prerequisites for removing the heat sink; they are simply a visual discrepancydiscrepancies.
