Introduction |
This guide will help you replace the disc reader of a Sega Saturn. Before you begin disassembling, I advise getting the detailed tools together. We cannot stress enough that you also do NOT touch the disc reader’s laser head (see step one for picture). There have been reports that smudging it can ruin the laser, requiring a whole new replacement. Other than that, just read each step through before doing it and this repair will be a breeze. | If your Sega Saturn fails to read discs properly, use this guide to replace the disc reader. | | The disc reader transmits data from a disc to the Saturn itself. A misaligned or damaged disc reader will stop the disc from spinning or cause the Saturn to display a “Drive Empty” message. | | Before using this guide, clean the disk reader lens with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol, as a dirty optical drive may be the cause of a disc reading failure. |
