Philips Hue light bulbs are expensive ($30-70). The glass bulb is really thin and can be easily broken, resulting in an annoying aggressive light.
-
On the other hand, Ikea recently released budget & strong light bulbs ($6.99 for two). This guide will show you how to dismount an Ikea light bulb and how to use its bulb to fix a broken Philips Hue bulb with low budget.
-
-
-
Start by carefully removing the remaining broken glass parts from the Philips Hue lightbulb. On this example, glass parts have already been removed.
-
Then use your Groove Joint Pliers to gently crush and remove the screw thread contact of the IKEA lightbulb.
-
Once removed, you'll be able to extract the LED controller using your fingers. You might have to use a pliers again.
-
-
-
-
The bulb is sealed by the plastic & metallic body.
-
Firmly use Cutting Pliers to cut and remove the body. You will only need to break the plastic layer in order to free the bulb.
-
-
-
Put glue on both the Ikea bulb and the Philips light bulb.
-
Wait a few minutes before pressing firmly against each other.
-
-
-
Congratulations ! You just fixed a $60 light bulb for less than $4 !

Can't wait to try it! I really didn't want to lose this color hue bulb, so this is a great way to extend the life of these bulbs
You’re exactly the kind of person who is in the situation for which I posted this guide :) :) :)
fingers crossed for you !!
Is there any other model that fits better into the Philips Hue? I broke one and want to fix it but I see on your pictures that the Ikea bulb doesn’t fit perfectly.
maybe we can find another model that fits into the Hue base…
in any case I want to thank you for the guide! Good idea to repair Hue bulbs
Hi !
sorry for missing your comment !
i have no idea to be honest. This is a easy hack that worked fine for me since my bulbs are in an enclosure :)
hope you found something that worked for you !
Great stuff! Has anyone tried unscrewing the three screws seen on the second picture under step 1? I figure that would make it easier to get all of the broken glass out of the way and start with a clean slate before gluing the new glass on there. I just don’t know if there are any cables under there that would break or something of that nature, and don’t really want to find out if I risk breaking the entire thing.
Maybe someone with a completely dead bulb could try it and snap some pictures? Fingers crossed!
Okay, so after further research the plastic piece held down by the three crews is just a lid. It lifted up with a bit of pursuasion due to the glue/silicone mold. Do note, though, that there are different designs out there. My bulb has a star pattern LED layout. In my case lifting the lid made it easier to completely remove the shattered glass. Good luck ya’ll.
Hi David !
thanks for putting your own feedback to the guide ! I’m glad that you found a way
I personnaly had to apply extra « force » on several parts but overall removing the glass was quite easy !
good luck with the fixing process
